Jane Greenhill is Secretly a Teenage Alien

Jane Greenhill writes wonderful YA books about an alien named Oas.  She knows this character so well I sometimes think that Jane herself might be from Zorka Twenty-Three.

I Was A Teenage Alien has just been released and she has two more books in the series that will be out this year. As well as other projects.

INTERVIEW:

1. Tell us what inspired your story?  In a small town in Canada, there was an E Coli outbreak from contaminated water, and I got the idea of an alien coming to earth and saving the town.

2. Describe your heroine and tell us a little about her.  Oas, is a teenage girl from Zorca-twenty-three.  Some things are universal, like annoying siblings, what to wear, hair issues and a mother who she believes favours her siblings over her.

3.Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?  No matter where you’re from, it’s hard to fit in, and you’ll have awkward moments, but if you try to fit in and make the effort, you’ll make friends.  Everyone feels out of place at some point in their lives, bullied and finding fake friends, but perseverance will enable you to find friends, boyfriends, and find yourself.

4.What are your current projects?  Coming out shortly is the sequel to I was a Teenage ALIEN, Star-struck ALIEN, where Oas finds her brother’s former girlfriend and her mortal enemy is now a major recording star, and she must make nice to get back home.  In the summer the final in the series will be released, Jolly Olde Teenage ALIEN.

5. Can you share a little of your current work with us?  I just finished a YA adventure called Joust in Times, where a teenage girl time travels back to medieval times.  It was a lot different to write than the ALIEN series, because there was a lot more fact checking and research involved.

6. Who is your cover artist? Tracy Stewart, she’s the best out there and really gets me and my ideas.  We’ve never met in person, but she’s a kindred spirit.

I WAS A TEENAGE ALIEN EXCERPT:

“You’re so lucky having your best friend live so close to you. Mine lives on another planet.” Oh, stars, what did I just say? Why is it as a humanoid I can’t control my mouth?
“You’re right, Nic, she is really funny and cute, too,” Josh said.
He looked sideways at me, and I got really warm. Maybe that’s what Nic meant when she said Josh had the hots for me. He did make me warm. Funny how I could feel hot, though, when my skin looked like a chicken’s, all covered in small bumps.
He stopped in the middle of the cement and turned me around to face him. He reached forward and touched my nose. So I did what any ananoid would do, I slapped him. Not nearly as effective as when I used my antenna, but it had the same result.
Oops, I don’t think I was supposed to do that. I might have put his nose out of joint.
“What the snap was that for? I was just wiping a bit of ice cream off your nose. Man, you pack a wallop.” He bent over with his head in his hands, and his ball cap fell to the ground.
I bent down to pick it up, figuring it was the least I could do, and realized I’d made another mistake...
